Reading David Sedaris is like watching an aerialist.

His famed humor pieces take escalating risks while never failing to bring off smooth, astonishing landings.

Sedaris, reads the final piece from his new collection, Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls (Little, Brown and Company), and discusses the careful process by which he constructs his apparently effortless stories on the Bookworm Radio Program on Thursday June 27.

Sedaris was publicly recognized in 1992 when National Public Radio broadcast his essay "SantaLand Diaries" and has produced, written and narrated many memorable segments on the This American Life radio program.

He published his first collection of essays and short stories, Barrel Fever, in 1994. His next five essay collections, Naked (1997), Holidays on Ice (1997), Me Talk Pretty One Day (2000), Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim (2004), and When You Are Engulfed in Flames (2008), became New York Times Best Sellers.

In 2010, he released a collection of stories, Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary.

Bookworm can be heard in the Los Angeles area on radio station KCRW 89.9 FM or on the internet at KCRW.com each Thursday afternoon at 2:30 PM PT.  We have also provided a link in our Bosco News and Information Radio in the sidebar.

A must for the serious reader, Bookworm showcases writers of fiction and poetry - the established, new or emerging - all interviewed with insight and precision by the show's Michael Silverblatt.
